John Perry “Johnny” Runyan was born on February 19, 1947, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Perry Opal and Mary Jeannie (Finney) Runyan. He attended Cache Public Schools, graduating from Cache High School with the Class of 1965. He later attended Cameron College in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was drafted into the United States Army, valiantly serving during the Vietnam Conflict. When Johnny returned home, he continued his service in the United States Army Reserve. On March 16, 1973, he and Kathy M. Nixon were united in marriage at Wesley Chapel, southeast of Cache.

In 1969, Johnny took a job as a heavy equipment operator for Comanche County Western District III. After 34 years of dedicated service, he retired as foreman in 2003. He also served on the Cache School Board and was a long-time member of the Cache Chamber of Commerce. Johnny enjoyed the rodeo. During his younger days, he was a bull rider, but he had to hang up his flank strap after an accident resulted in the loss of an eye. Regardless, he never wanted to miss out on experiencing the fun and excitement of being around the arena. Above all, though, Johnny was a family man. His family, and especially the grandkids were the highlight of his days.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Kathy Runyan of the home; two sons, Perry Flint Runyan and his wife April of Cache, Oklahoma, and Cody Wayne Runyan of Cache, Oklahoma; three brothers, Tomie Jack Runyan and his wife Debbie of Lubbock, Texas, Kenny Lew Runyan of Loving, Texas, and Joe Bill Runyan of Chattanooga, Oklahoma; two sisters, Joyce Lee Runyan of Lubbock, Texas, and Janice Laverne Cox and her husband Ronnie of Lawton, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Ally Runyan, Kaycee Wiggins and her husband Reace, Todd Davis and his wife Emily, and Scotty Davis and his wife Payton; four great-grandchildren, Montana Wiggins, Brystol Wiggins, Jaxson Davis, and Gracie Davis; an adopted uncle, Henry King of Chickasha, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Jeannie Runyan; his in-laws, Maurice and Doris Nixon; and sister-in-law, Georgia Runyan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiahoma F.F.A., in memory of Johnny Runyan.
