Alicia Hernandez de’Macias, 83, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. She was born March 2, 1941, in San Buena Ventura, Mexico, to Alfonso Hernandez and Gertrude Hernandez (Arevlo). She was the seventh of nine children.
Alicia grew up in Mexico, attending school there and helping with the younger children. She met and married her husband, Rafael Macias, while he was down visiting family. They married in Mexico and then moved to Lawton, Oklahoma, where they lived before moving to Geronimo, Oklahoma. She proudly received her citizenship on April 26, 1996. Alicia and Rafael had two children: a son, Rafael, and a daughter, Esperanza.
Alicia loved to sing from her hymnal and read her Bible. She and her husband attended the First Assembly of God Church in Geronimo, Oklahoma, with Pastor Tony Elkins. Alicia was a homemaker with many hobbies. She enjoyed embroidery, sewing, putting puzzles together, and working in the yard, and she loved it when her rose bushes were in full bloom. More than anything, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren, Rafael, Charles, Nicholas, Rauna, and Stephen, play while she sang.
Alicia is survived by her son, Rafael Macias and wife Tami, of Geronimo, Oklahoma; daughter, Esperanza Macias, of Lawton, Oklahoma; five grandchildren: Rafael Macias and wife Kris, of Lawton, Charles Macias and wife Tiffani, of Cache, Nicholas Macias and wife Allison, of Geronimo, Rauna Humann, of Geronimo, and Stephen and Michelle Pennington of Lawton; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lydia Hernandez; sister-in-law, Maria Hernandez, sister-in-law, Sarapia Macias, of Lawton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rafael; three brothers, Ramon, Manuel, and Umberto; and four sisters, Ophela, Lupa, Marianna, and Rebecca.
We want to say “Thank you” to Steven and Paula Mallow and Tony and Linda Elkins for all they did over the years for Alicia and Rafael. We would also like to thank Willow Park Healthcare Center and staff, especially Bobbi, Windel, Sherri, Francis, and Victor; special friends, Mendy and Marilyn; the Comanche County Hospital; and the doctors and nurses who took such great care of our mother.
