Visitation for Jana Sue Barker will be Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 10:00AM - 8:00PM at the Elgin Funeral Home, 602 A. Street Elgin, OK 73538

Family will be present to greet friends and guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The graveside service will be Friday, July 26, 2024 9:00AM - 9:30AM at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery, 2648 NE Jake Dunn Rd. Elgin, OK 73538.

Jana Sue Barker passed peacefully on July 21, 2024.

She was born in Sterling, Okla., on Oct. 15, 1948, to Samuel T. Braly and Mildred (Liles) Braly. After graduating from Sterling High School in 1966, she worked in civil service at Fort Sill where she met the love of her life, Mark E. Barker. They were married Feb. 7, 1970. For the next 10 years or so they moved often with Mark’s military career. They had many great adventures traveling. After his retirement, they settled back in the Lawton area.

Jana was incredibly involved in her community. She was a Ward 4 city council woman in Lawton from 1992-1994. She served as president of Mountain Metro AMBUCS for a time. She was active in the Republican Party, a graduate of Leadership Lawton and served on their board of directors, member of the Daughters of the Revolution, member of the Board of Directors for Oklahoma Honor Flights and a recipient of the Military Order of Molly Pitcher award. She also helped her husband in the VFW and American Legion.

Jana’s greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with her husband, daughters, and grandchildren. Her favorite saying was “Just call me Grandma.” She was very active in her church. She will be missed by many.

Jana is survived by her daughters: Dawn and Joe Lyon, Sanford, N.C., Janette and George Nassaney, Blair, OK, Julie and Michael Mathews, Fletcher, OK; grandchildren: Taylor and Laura Mathews, Brianne and Michael Kollmorgen, Jordan and Ashtin Nassaney, Dallas and Mary Mathews, Jaret and Maclay Nassaney, Morgan Dockstader, William Gafney and Jada Holifield, Braedon Lyon, Haylee Nassaney, Melissa Nassaney, Jacob Lyon; great-grandchildren: Abigail Foster, Copen Mathews, Easton Mathews, Adelaide Kollmorgen, Theodore Kollmorgen, Jace Nassaney, Kase Nassaney, Pace Nassaney, Beau Mathews, Georgia Mathews; and one brother, Gary Braly.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mark E. Barker; her parents, Samuel and Mildred Braly; and brother, Edward Braly.
