Herman Francis Ledford, 94, of Lawton, joined his heavenly father on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
Herman was born on January 14, 1930, to Thomas McLain and Pearl (Bell) Ledford in Indiahoma, Okla. He was one of eleven children who grew up on a farm, instilling in him a strong work ethic. He attended Indiahoma Public Schools, where he excelled in various sports, including football, basketball, and baseball. Herman’s dedication to his studies led him to graduate from Cameron Agricultural College and Oklahoma Baptist University. He was then called to ministry and furthered his education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Tex.
Herman met Maxine Holder while attending Cameron College. They married in Mountain Park on June 3, 1951, and were blessed with four children, Jan, Keith, Kent, and Keegan. Herman served as pastor for several churches in Oklahoma, including Mount Pleasant Church in Shawnee, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Weatherford, Hennepin Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Chattanooga, and First Baptist Church of Cheyenne. In 1959, Herman created a weekly TV religious program called the Country Parson. In addition to pastoring churches, Herman created Cowboy Park, a family theme park, and Ledford’s Kindergarten School.
Herman enjoyed working on his equipment, savoring family dinners, and seeing his grandchildren. But above all, he cherished his faith in Jesus Christ and shared it with everyone he met.
Herman is survived by his daughter Jan Spannagel of Lawton, his son Keith Ledford of Lawton, his son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Rebecca Ledford of Walters, his son and daughter-in-law, Keegan and Bonnie Ledford of Lawton, grandchildren, Carie Spannagel, Chad Spannagel, Morgan Ledford, Courtney Ledford, TJ Burkey, Taylor Daniel and husband Conner, Jacob Ledford, great grandchildren, Ariella Oser-Ledford, Maverick Ledford, Ripp Daniel, and Tuff Daniel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and his former daughter-in-law, Martha Ann Taylor.
Herman was preceded in death by his beloved wife Maxine Ledford, his parents, Thomas and Pearl Ledford, his six brothers and four sisters, and his son-in-law, Alvah “Alvie” Spannagel.
