David Michael Lockhart was born on September 15, 1976, in Lawton, OK, to Carol Sue Scherler and Joe Lockhart, and received his Heavenly promotion March 5, 2025, in Sterling, KS.
David married the love of his life, Julie Avance Lockhart, on April 1, 2006, in Eureka Springs, AR. The two first bonded over their mutual love of the Dave Matthews Band, after being set up on a blind date by his little sister. They emailed for several weeks before calling one another, but as a testament to their immediate connection, were engaged just a few short months later.
David and Julie were blessed with two wonderful children, Mason Trent and Emma Grace.  David delighted in being a dad to his children, and proudly recounted their accomplishments to everyone he met.
A genuine country kid who loved all things farming, fishing and riding the three-wheeler with his siblings and cousins, David grew up near Faxon, OK. He attended Faxon School before promoting to and graduating from Chattanooga High School in 1995. David earned an associate degree in diesel mechanics from Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology, and then obtained a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University. A loyal and true Cowboy alumnus, David enjoyed sharing with others about his beloved alma mater OSU, Red Dirt music, and his faith in Jesus.
Following a near-fatal collision with a train in his early twenties, David’s life changed dramatically. He became more focused and driven, knowing and proclaiming that his life had immeasurable purpose.
With a tenacious work ethic learned from his grandpa at a young age, David had a fulfilling career touching almost every part of grain production. A gentle giant and a loyal friend, his windshield time working for varying companies allowed for many conversations with both new and old friends. He was phenomenal at preserving connections and making sure everyone he met felt important – remembering minute conversations, with minute details.
David was a volunteer firefighter in the Sterling Fire Department and a member of CrossPoint Church, where he served in the sound booth and taught elementary Sunday School. From running the scoreboard for the high school football games, stepping up as a sidelines Chain Gang member, to assisting as a spotter in the box, David was always willing to use his time and talents to cheer on the Sterling Black Bears.
David was welcomed into Heaven by his mother, Carol Scherler; grandparents Mark and Mary Elizabeth Scherler, and Jack and Mary Beth Lockhart.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Julie, of the home; children Mason and Emma, of the home; father Joe Lockhart and Karen, of Faxon, OK; his father and mother-in-law Jim and Jan Avance of Lawton, OK; sisters Sarah Chase and husband Steve of Chouteau, OK, and Elise Lockhart-Love and fiance Russell Loftin of Chattanooga, OK; nieces Maegan Rodriguez and Ricky of Clinton, OK, Makenzie Love and Sierra of Chattanooga, OK, Chloe Binford of Oxford, MS, and Emma Chase of Chouteau, OK; nephews Dan Chase and Michaela of Fairbanks, AK, Preston Bragg of Tulsa, OK, Harrison Love of Stillwater, OK, and Jacob Binford of Chouteau, OK; along with a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Mason and Emma’s education funds. Gifts can be mailed to: First Bank of Sterling, P.O. Box 67, Sterling, KS 67579. Please make checks payable to Julie Lockhart, and write “Lockhart Children Memorial Fund” in the memo line.
