Monty Wayne Brooking, of Wichita Falls, Texas, died Saturday March 15, 2025. He was born May 18, 1959, at the Fort Sill Hospital and at age 4½, he was lovingly adopted by Doyle and Selma Brooking of Cache, OK. Judge Inez Manning who married the couple also signed his adoption papers. Before graduating high school, Monty helped with the family business, Doyle’s Propane, and he also worked at the family farm. Monty graduated from Cache High School in 1979, being the first class to graduate from the new high school that was built south of the highway. He worked for CETA in the summer, using a yo-yo tool to clean ditches in the Lawton area. In August 1979, the City of Lawton Street Department hired him. Monty enjoyed driving the brush hog for his job. An even bigger joy for him was on nights when snow or ice was predicted, he would stay at the street department office so he would be ready to go sand and salt Lawton streets when it was needed. Sometimes he would work long shifts to make sure the streets were safe for citizens. He also enjoyed meeting citizens of Lawton and loved introducing them to his parents and siblings. Monty had a knack for remembering faces and names, and he loved making people laugh. He would often have knock-knock jokes ready to tell anyone who wanted to hear them. Monty retired in 2006, but wanted to stay busy so he was employed at several other jobs before he medically had to retire for good. In November 2013 he moved from his home in Cache to Ten Oaks Assisted Living in Lawton. In 2020, due to health issues, he moved to Swan Health Care in Wichita Falls, Texas. Monty was baptized on June 1, 1967 at Cache United Methodist Church. In his early 20s, he loved greeting congregants at the door before church services started. For many years, he also plowed the LO Ranch arena for their annual rodeo. While doing this, he loved wearing his honorary Lawton Ranger shirt and he loved giving back. Monty was very humble and loved helping behind the scenes. A favorite hobby of Monty was driving his Chevy Silverado around the countryside. He loved finding the best buffets and cafes. He also would play card games and watch old western movies. Monty was known for his sense of humor and his contagious laugh. He was a registered member of the Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma and was a Christian.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Melvin "Doyle" Brooking. Survivors include his mother Selma; his siblings and their spouses: Sabrina Adams (Raanon Adams), Mikel Brooking, and Renate Warner (Neal Warner); his niece and her husband, Marissa Hall (Justin Hall); nephews, Tristan Adams, Isaac Warner, Isaiah Warner, Job Warner and Jude Warner; and his great nephew, Kacen Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Cache United Methodist Church.
