Funeral service for Dirl D. Burruss was 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2025 at the Arena Cowboy Church north of Lawton at 7323 NW Wolf Rd., Lawton, OK 73507 with David McGhghy, Pastor officiating.

Burial followed in Cache Cemetery under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Dirl Burruss, 81, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025 in Lawton.

Dirl was born on August 6, 1943, in Lawton, Oklahoma, and lived a life defined by hard work, deep family devotion, and a generous spirit. He attended Central High School and married Earline Howeth in 1960, beginning a journey that would be marked by perseverance, craftsmanship, and strong family values.

Throughout his life, Dirl worked as a skilled mechanic and construction worker, contributing to the building of homes and landmarks across Lawton and nearby communities. He also spent time as a coal miner in Colorado, never backing down from a challenge and always bringing determination and grit to every task.

A man of many trades and talents, Dirl owned 14 bars and numerous cars during his lifetime, reflecting his passion for machinery, entrepreneurship, and craftsmanship. He was the proud owner and operator of The Boat Barn, Harley's Night Club, and Mean Green in Elgin, Oklahoma. He had a particular love for Harley-Davidsons-both the motorcycles and their beloved dog, Harley.

In 1999, Dirl married Joyce Willey, and together they built a loving and welcoming home filled with warmth, laughter, and family. His love for his family was matched only by his dedication to community.

Dirl was a proud Mason with the Apache Lodge and the founder of the Porter Hill Cruzers in 2000. A mentor and a natural leader, he was the kind of man who led by example and inspired others through his actions and work ethic.

He leaves behind a large and loving family, including children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended relatives, and countless friends, all of whom cherished him deeply. Dirl's legacy of love, strength, and generosity will continue to live on in all who knew him.

Dirl was preceded in death by his parents, Dee Dirl Burruss and Sarah Hazel Stewart; maternal grandparents, John Franklin Phipps and Mary Magdeline Glass-Phipps; brother, Donald Burruss; son, Damon Wayne Burruss; and daughter, Tammie Chestnut.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Burruss of the home in Elgin; sister, Martha Suggs of Elgin, brother, Roger Burruss of Lawton; children: Dana Reno of Lawton, Brenda Burruss of Edmond, Darrell Burruss of Duncan, Lisa Dawsey of Lawton and Chrisee Fletcher Amarillo Texas, and numerous sons- and daughters-in-law; his grandchildren, including Anthony Beasley, Jessica Claycraft, Philip Shenker, Shane Ketner, Chuck Ketner, Amber Wyatt, Nicholas Pardon, Bridgett Deitchler, Sheryl Wingfield, Melissa Burruss, Craig Foster, Tevin Foster, Danquez Dawsey, Raelynn Fletcher, Jade Fletcher, Faith Fletcher, Blakely Fletcher and many great-grandchildren; Uncle Frankie Phipps of Lawton; Aunts, Francis Ketner of Central Oklahoma, Lorene Conley of Sherman Texas, and a host of extended family friends.

Dirl Burruss will be remembered for his strength, wisdom, sense of humor, and the deep love he gave to those around him. His legacy lives on in every story shared, every family meal cooked, and every Harley that rumbles down the road in his honor.
