Dawn Lynn (Tara) Carrasco

Dawn Lynn (Tara) Carrasco, 53, was called to her eternal home on July 21, 2025 while visiting her family in Sherman, Texas. She was born on August 22, 1971 in Oklahoma City to Cassandra Mithlo and David Harjo.
Dawn was a member of the Chiricahua - Warm Springs Apache Tribe and was also Comanche and Seminole. She grew up in Apache where she completed most of her schooling. She graduated from high school in Blanchard, Oklahoma in 1989.
One of her greatest accomplishments and joys in life was being a mother. She became a mother early in her life with husband Bruce Poafpybitty Jr. They spent twelve loving years together and had two daughters, Cassie and Whitley. In the mid 90s, she remarried to David Carrasco and had two sons, Carlos and Anthony. She was overjoyed as a grandmother to ten grandchildren. Every chance she could, she would travel between Oklahoma and Texas to be with her children and grandchildren. She loved her family dearly and they brought her so much happiness.
Dawn enjoyed the simple things in life like going on outings with her mother Cassandra, to shop and visit people. She loved being at home watching her favorite shows and movies. Dawn was known for having a big heart and comforting love. She was kind and generous. She was always willing to help someone or go out of the way to make sure everyone was taken care of. She had many close friendships she cherished deeply.
Dawn is preceded in death by father, David Harjo; daughter, Whitley Dawn Poafpybitty; grandson, Jose Luis Angel Lopez; grandparents, Thurman Lee and Beatrice Kowena Mithlo, and Amos and Lucy Harjo; great grandparents, Felix and Kate Kowena and Lawrence and Dolly Mithlo.
She is survived by her mother, Cassandra Mithlo; brothers, Timothy Harjo and Christopher Washington; daughter, Cassie Aitson Poafpybitty; sons, Carlos Carrasco and Anthony Carrasco; grandchildren, Leslie Lopez, Nathanyl Gomez, Jose Gomez Jr. Amiya Gomez; Angelina Lopez-Poafpybitty, Thomas Lopez, Chris Lopez, Carly Lopez, Elizabeth Carrasco, Azariah Carrasco.
Visitation and viewing will be on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 3:00pm followed by a prayer service at 7:00pm at the Comanche Nation Funeral Home in Lawton, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 at the Comanche Nation Funeral Home at 10:00am. Burial service will be conducted at the Post Oak Cemetery in Indiahoma, Oklahoma.
Flowers and donations will be accepted by the Comanche Nation Funeral Home.
