Funeral service for Leroy Kerr Horn was at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2026 at University Church of Christ with Eric Sharum, minister officiating.
Leroy Kerr Horn, 88, passed away March 22, 2026, at his home. He was born on July 6, 1937, in Chattanooga, Oklahoma to Joseph Vern and Mary Nevada Horn. Leroy had 7 brothers and sisters, who all grew up in Chattanooga, where Leroy graduated high school in 1955. He then attended Cameron Junior College before transferring and obtaining his degree in education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Leroy married the love of his life, Pat, in 1959, and they spent 58 years making memories, raising children, and being their grandkids' biggest fans. After Pat's passing in 2017, Leroy's heart was never healed. Leroy began teaching at Lawton High in 1959, and 6 short years later, began his successful coaching career, coaching basketball, football, baseball, and golf. He loved all sports, whether it was watching professional teams, collegiate teams, or high school teams. Leroy especially loved following all his grandsons' sports endeavors and was always so proud of their accomplishments. He had a storied career as the defensive coordinator for many years at Lawton High School, where he won two state championships and made many play-off appearances in football. He made a lasting impact on his athletes and many have still kept in touch with him to this day. His time at Lawton High held many of his fondest memories and provided a coaching brotherhood that was irreplaceable. Leroy was a member of the University Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for many years. He was a strong man of faith and was a shining example of that to all that knew him. Several people impacted Leroy's life, one of which is Kevin Williams, a former neighbor whose lawn company, as a service to them, made sure Leroy and Pat's yard and landscaping were always done when they could no longer do it themselves.
Leroy is survived by three daughters, Tracy Caldwell of Derby, Kansas; Teri Lee and her husband James Lee, of Lawton; and Tomi Lorah and her husband Curtis Lorah, of Elgin. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren: Andrea Cummins and fiancee KC Simon, Andrea's children Lucas, Logan, and Lilly; grandson Tyler Caldwell and wife, Jarica Caldwell, along with their sons, Theodore and Jett; granddaughter Lauren Elmore and her husband Jared Elmore, along with their children, Vera and Adonnis; grandson Joe Kahlden; granddaughter Kelsi Kahlden and her spouse Nolan Aranda, their son Damon and daughter Brynli; grandson Garrett Lorah and his wife Tristan Lorah, and their sons Graham and Tate; grandson Brett Lorah; grandson Drevon Kaywaykla and his girlfriend Isabella Manriquez, along with their daughter Harlow Kaywaykla; and grandson Tres Lorah. Leroy is also survived by his long-time friend and brother-in-law, Bill "Butch" Capshaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Horn, along with all of his brothers and sisters: Mary Josephine Horn, Omar D. Horn, Eva Marie Holata, Jojuana Hicks, Naomi Capshaw, Juanita Strange, and Billy Vern Horn. He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Bobby Horn.
Memorial contributions can be made to University Church of Christ, 2716 SW Cornell Ave., Lawton, Oklahoma 73505.
