Funeral service for Robert Lee Nichols will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 in Letitia Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Kelly, Pastor officiating.
Burial will follow in Letitia Cemetery under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Robert Lee Nichols died Wednesday, May 15, 2024 in Oklahoma City at the age of 72. He was born June 2, 1951 in Ventura, California to William M. “Bill” and Wilva “Dot” (Giles) Nichols. He primarily grew up in Lawton and was a 1969 graduate of Eisenhower High School. He married Becky Shope on Feb. 6, 1970 at Cameron Baptist Church in Lawton.
Robert attended the Oklahoma State University School of Technology in Okmulgee and General Motors School in Oklahoma City where he received training to be a mechanic. He worked as a repairman for Clinton Herring Lincoln Mercury and Howard Smith Ford in Lawton as well as Kissee Brothers Ford in Duncan. Robert later worked as a route driver for Mead’s Bakery, Frito Lay and Johnson Milk Company. He and Becky operated Lawton Feed and Pet from 1989-1993. Robert will be best remembered for his carpentry skills. He started working as a carpenter at Fort Sill and worked as a supervisor for Ten Bears Construction Company. He also did a lot of private carpentry work.
He was a member of Letitia Baptist Church, the Wichita Mountains Horse Association and the Lawton Rangers. Robert also enjoyed riding horses with the “Old Men’s Club” and participating in the old west reenactment group.
He is survived by his wife, Becky, of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Tiphanie and Mark Murphy; his son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Heather Nichols; four grandchildren and their spouses: Kelsie and Antonio Ervin, Rylee Murphy, Derek Nichols and Shayna and Riley Wagner; three great-grandchildren: Alayna, Adrian and Kennedi Ervin; two brothers: Billy Nichols and Wayne Nichols and wife, Laurie; his mother-in-law, Jorita Shope; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Melissa and Robert Brown; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Jenny Nichols.
