His basic training took place in Fort Polk, Louisiana. After basic training his military career took him to Fort Knox, Kentucky where he learned to be a track mechanic. Jerry was then sent to Vietnam in October of 1969 and for his service he received many medals and honors that include, The Bronze Star, the Good Conduct and Service Medal and Vietnam medals. Mr. Dixon served at many duty stations during his 21 year career that include, Fort Sill, two tours in Germany, Cedartown, Georgia where he was an adviser to The National Guard, Fort Riley, Kansas, and one year at Camp Stanley in South Korea. Jerry retired from the military after 21 years at Fort Sill on January 21, 1990.
Mr. Dixon then owned and operated Jerry's Glass and Mirror from 1992 to 2009. Jerry married Diana Gail Maxfield on November 16, 1973 and the two made their home in Cache. Mr. Dixon was a strong Christian man and was a faithful member and served as a trustee at New Life Assembly of God. He was a member of the H Troop, 17 Calvary Vietnam Veteran Reunion Group Hell Raisers, and a member of the Lawton/Fort Sill PTSD Group. Jerry was an avid golfer & member at the Lawton Municipal Golf Course. He always bragged about his hole in One on the 17th hole there “with a club that a guy made for him specifically for that hole." His best golfing buddies were Al Beemer, Charlie Martin , & Bob Wolfe. He loved getting in the car and traveling with his beloved Gail on their many trips to Branson with their besties David & Carol McCracken.
Jerry loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He enjoyed summers with his family swimming and having fun in his backyard pool. We are all forever thankful for his love for every person he ever met. He showed us what a Christ like life looked like.
